Saint Isaac the Syrian says, “Do not try to come in touch with the mysteries of God and the word of God without prayer.” So, do not open holy Scripture; do not start reading without asking God for His help, saying something like, “Lord, allow me to sense; let me feel the power of Your words, the power that exists in Your words.” You must consider prayer as the key for your understanding of the deeper meaning of the Scriptures.”
